The Urban-Rural Biomonitoring & Assessment Network. A citizen-science project in Hamilton, Ontario.

URBAN wants to help you get into the field as soon as possible. Learn all about the plants and animals you’ll find in your local streams and wetlands. With a little knowledge, you can identify crucial species, giving us a better sense for how healthy our environment is doing.

Start with Field Work Prep. Learn how to measure water quality, and to identify plants and animals in our wetlands and streams.

When you’re feeling confident, Test Your Knowledge. If you can correctly identify the images and bird calls, you’re all set to head into the field.

For more in depth knowledge, read some of the research published by the team here at McMaster University.
